It was God's Idea

"And the Lord God said, “It isn’t good for man to be alone; I will make a companion for him, a helper suited to his needs." (Genesis 2:18 TLB).

The Hebrew word for meet or suitable (keneghdo) means fit, to correspond with, counterpart and equal to. The Bible goes into detail in discussing the creation of woman to show that man and woman are both equally related to each other, and although they are different persons, the one cannot exist without the other.

It was God's plan to create both man and woman to help each other, and this requires two things:

1) The willingness to help

2) The willingness to receive and accept the offered help

So the point is clear, they are equal in person and being and the only difference is that they have different roles and purposes on this earth.
