"And you have forgotten the exhortation addressed to you as sons: My son, do not despise the discipline from the Lord, nor grow weary when you are rebuked by Him; for whom the Lord loves He disciplines, and scourges every son whom He receives. Endure discipline; God is dealing with you as with sons. For what son is there whom a father does not discipline?" (Hebrews 12:5-7 Modern English Version (MEV)).
If you have ever trained for anything you know that a lot of blood sweat and tears will be part of the process. A military person while undergoing recruit training is put through some hard and tough periods of training, and there are days on end that it seems as though the pain will never go away. Pain is weakness leaving the body in the eyes of most, but with that weakness, they are suddenly made strong.
In the New Testament the word "paideuo" comes up in a number of passages such as the one above. It's meaning is to train, instruct or discipline a believer, because all Christians need training in righteousness. Every good parent knows that when you train a child in the way they should go, when they are older they will not depart from it. (Prov 22:6).
In every situation God uses the good and the bad as a teachable moment, and although it can be painful and even uncomfortable, there is always a reason and a goal in mind. Because all things work together for good to them that love God.
One Love,
